There seems to be no shortage of stories about
sex charges involving teachers and students. The NY Daily News seems to aggregate
these types of stories for traffic-generation purposes – though
that’s just mere speculation. But, even so, it does highlight the
fact that these cases draw a lot of attention.
And it’s not just the public, but prosecutors, too, who pay attention.
In one of the latest cases, a 24-year-old high school teacher in Iowa has
plead guilty to sexual misconduct with four boys ages 16 to 18, according
to Lee Moran with the NY Daily News.
First, she texted pictures of herself in the nude, as a method of seducing
the boys, and then had sex with them. For each of the counts to which
she plead guilty, she faces up to five years behind bars, and will be
sentenced two months from now.
Though this case occurred out of state, Maryland law also prohibits sexual
relationships between teachers and students. The severity of the sex charges
depends on the age range between the teacher and student, though any sexual
relationship between a “person in position of authority” and
a student will likely result in criminal charges.
