Recent Dragnet by Maryland ICAC Leads to 58 Child Porn Arrests

If you’ve been keeping up with local news, then you’ve probably heard that authorities arrested nearly 60 people in Maryland recently on child sexual exploitation charges. The charges cover a range of crimes, but they were focused on individuals who possessed, manufactured, or distributed child pornography.

This was the biggest investigation on child pornography and related crimes in Maryland to date. The task force assembled by the state opened up 320 investigations in total, with outreach efforts that reached more than 1000 people.

With the advent of the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), authorities have clarified that child porn and related cases are a primary focus. And with the tools and manpower at their disposal, they are sure to keep sweeping up suspects throughout the state.

So, if you get a loud knock on your door in the middle of the night from a detective coming to “ask a few questions,” do not say anything to them other than, “I wish to speak to my attorney.” Most likely, they will demand to take all the internet-capable devices in the household, and you should allow them to do so. Remember, ANYTHING you say or do can be used against you in a court of law.
